The country’s second city and the world’s sixth container port, Busan served as a refuge during the Korean War: never captured, the city saw its population double within months, which explains hillside districts like Gamcheon. Jagalchi market, run mainly by women, is Korea’s largest fish market. The international film festival, created in 1996, has become Asia’s most important.
