The Baekje capitals

Baekje held the southwest of the peninsula from 18 BCE to 660, in constant rivalry with Goguryeo and Silla. Its court sent monks, scribes and craftsmen to Japan: Baekje carpenters helped build the first temples of Nara, and the style of its Buddhist statues reappears in Asuka sculpture. King Muryeong’s tomb at Gongju is the only Korean royal burial identified with certainty by its epitaph. Eight sites in Gongju, Buyeo and Iksan have been World Heritage since 2015.
