The province combines the Geoje shipyards, the Changwon factories and an indented coastline that hosted Yi Sun-sin’s naval battles. In the Gaya mountains, Haeinsa monastery has held the Tripitaka Koreana since 1398, the most complete collection of Buddhist texts carved in wood, in two halls whose natural ventilation has preserved the blocks for six centuries.
