Space Invaders is an arcade game developed by Tomohiro Nishikado and published by Taito in Japan in 1978. The player controls a cannon that must destroy waves of alien invaders descending toward the bottom of the screen.
A worldwide success, Space Invaders is considered one of the founding games of the video game industry and greatly helped popularize arcades in the late 1970s.
