Sheltered from the wind by two mountain ranges, Okayama records the most rainless days in Japan, which built its fruit reputation: white peaches and Pione muscat grapes. Kōraku-en garden, completed in 1700, completes the trio with Kenroku-en and Kairaku-en. Kurashiki keeps a quarter of canals and white storehouses, and the tale of Momotarō, the boy born from a peach, is anchored here.
