Seoraksan
The country’s third-highest peak, a biosphere reserve, and Korea’s most photographed autumn.

The name means "snow peak mountain", snow lying from early winter until May. The massif tops out at 1,708 metres and holds a high-altitude flora rare at this latitude, which earned it UNESCO biosphere reserve status as early as 1982. Sinheungsa temple, at the entrance, guards a fourteen-metre bronze Buddha cast in 1997. Crowds come above all in mid-October, when the maples turn: the authorities then impose access quotas on certain trails.
