Super Mario is a platform game series published by Nintendo, with a character created by Shigeru Miyamoto. After a first appearance in Donkey Kong (1981), Mario became the star of Super Mario Bros. in 1985 on the NES console, a foundational title of the genre.
The franchise is one of the best-selling in video game history and Mario has become Nintendo's mascot, appearing in countless games, spin-offs and merchandise.
