Hahoe Folk Village

Hahoe means "surrounded by water": the Nakdong river makes an almost closed loop here, a layout Korean geomancy judges ideal. The Ryu clan of Pungsan settled in the fifteenth century and still lives there, in tiled houses for the scholars and thatched ones for the farmers, laid out by rank. The village gave Korea prime minister Ryu Seong-ryong, who wrote the chronicle of the war against the Japanese invasions. The byeolsingut talnori, a satirical masked dance in which peasants mocked the nobility, has been performed here since the twelfth century. World Heritage since 2010.
