Gundam

Gundam (Mobile Suit Gundam) is a Japanese animation franchise launched in 1979 with a series created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and produced by Sunrise. It features piloted robots, the "mobile suits," in often mature, political war stories.

Gundam is credited with founding the "real robot" subgenre, more realistic than the earlier invincible robots. The franchise continues through many series and films and a popular industry of assembly model kits, the Gunpla.
